Brunch at Malmaison

Posted on Updated on

We’ve had a lot of brunches and dinners at Malmaison. I like it there, good food, relaxed ambience and great bar area and patio (when the sun’s shining) to while away an afternoon.

Our visit at the end of January was no exception. We were treated to a very tasty 3 course lunch.

So here we go. I ordered the eggs benedict. I just love eggs benedict on a Sunday and this one didn’t disappoint.

Dinner at The Bonham Restaurant

Posted on Updated on

The Bonham Restaurant has an excellent reputation. We went there last some years ago and decided it was about time we went again. And with the unbelievably good Boozy Snoozy offer now being extended to a Thursday evening we couldn’t resist. Boozy Snoozy offers diners 3 courses and half a bottle of wine for around £20 with 4 options for each course.

So last Thursday 16 of us (this is the most that The Bonham could accommodate for this 4/4/4 menu) went along to enjoy this weeknight treat and kickoff our weekends early.

I like the restaurant’s decor. Very simple with wooden floorboards, dark wood and statement light fittings.

So to the food! It was very good.

I opted for the pigeon was was very good and worked really well with the black pudding.

Seared sea bream at The Bonham

There were other delicious options – including vegetarian – not pictured here.

A wonderful evening of good food and company. The quality of the food and inclusion of wine make Boozy Snoozy exceptional value. Well worth a visit.

Our next brunch is at Angels with Bagpipes read Edinburgh Diva’s review here. If you’d like to join us book here.

Love Walking

Posted on Updated on

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Today I’m writing about what is a love for many people including me: walking.

Walking has become hugely popular in the Sunday Brunch Club. January’s walk was a beautiful coastal walk in East Tyninghame. A bumper turnout with over 30 people walking with us that day. The Club’s walks are very sociable with an emphasis on fun and enjoying the beauty of the Scottish countryside.

Huge thanks to Robin who led the walk.

Dinner at Prestonfield House Hotel

Posted on Updated on

It is becoming something of a habit. The sort of habit one doesn’t want to give up.
This is my third visit to Prestonfield House Hotel in four weeks! You can read about my previous visits for champagne afternoon tea with the girls and the Sunday Brunch Club Christmas Dinner.

I looked forward to this dinner with some excitement.  Sixteen of us went along to enjoy the delights of the Prestonfield experience.

Cooking Mania – Demo and Dine

Posted on Updated on

Recently we had a lovely event at Cooking Mania’s Cookery School in Stockbridge.

Graziella, our chef for the evening, did a demonstration for us of butternut squash soup, goats cheese and caramelised onion tarts and sausage rolls.

Deliciously addictive

The step-by-step approach was very helpful. Everything was prepared and cooked in front of us and Graziella gave us recipes to take away.

At the end, I decided even I could give it a whirl! You can read about my tart-fest on my Edinburgh Diva blog.

If culinary adventures appeal, try Cooking Mania. They organise a wide range of cookery demonstrations and classes.

February book The Piano Shop on the Left Bank by T E Carhart
Last night’s discussion of this book really divided opinion between those who while enjoying the start found that the book quickly became dull, uninspiring and unconvincing to those who thought it refreshing, enjoyable and a joy to read. Fifteen people attended and scored the book an average of 6.1.

Free service for Book Groups
City of Edinburgh Libraries has launched a marvellous new scheme for local book groups. Over 100 titles are available for loan to book groups. Fifteen copies of each book can be borrowed for up to 6 weeks. This means we’ll no longer need to buy or borrow books individually – it’s a great idea!
